VanFulpen's Heisman Poll

1. QB Cameron Newton, Auburn - This season Newton has rushed for 860 yards and 12 touchdowns and threw for 1,278 yards and 13 touchdowns and only has thrown 5 interceptions. Auburn has been lead by him and hasn’t lost a game this season and go up against LSU this week which will be a good test for him and if Newton can lead Auburn to a win he will be looking more and more like he will be holding up the Heisman in New York.

2. RB LaMichael James, Oregon - This season James has rushed for 848 yards and 9 touchdowns and also has caught 3 passes for 96 yards and 1 touchdown. Oregon is the new number one ranked team in the country in the polls and they play on ESPN on Thursday night against UCLA it will give everyone in the country a chance to see James and how good he is.

3. QB Kellen Moore, Boise State - This season Moore has thrown for 1,567 yards and 16 touchdowns and only 1 interception. Moore is a very effective quarterback and has great skill guys around him, but it will be hard for him to win the Heisman as they don’t play in a great conference and they aren’t on national TV that often.

4. QB Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State - This season Pryor has thrown for 1,505 yards and 15 touchdowns and only throwing 4 interceptions, and he has also rushed for 410 yards and 3 touchdowns. He drop this past week because his team lost to Wisconsin and he didn’t play all that great, he needs to show that he can be the player that we have seen early in the season for the rest of the season and Ohio State can’t afford anymore losses.

5. QB Denard Robinson, Michigan - This season Robinson has rushed for 1,096 yards and 9 touchdowns and threw for 1,319 yards and 9 touchdowns but has also thrown 5 interceptions. He has been outstanding, but he had a rough game against Michigan State and Iowa and was unable to finish the Iowa game because of an arm injury.

VanFulpen's Heisman Poll

1. QB Denard Robinson, Michigan – Against Indiana this past Saturday he was Michigan offense and Indiana didn’t have any answers for him. He rushed for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns and threw for 277 yards and 3 touchdowns. So far this season he has 905 yards rushing and 8 touchdowns and 1,008 yards passing and 7 touchdowns. This week Michigan takes on Michigan State and will be another test for him against one of the better overall linebackers in Greg Jones from Michigan State.


2. QB Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State – He didn’t have great stats against Illinois and also got hurt and miss a little bit of time, but came back in the game and had 104 yards rushing and 76 yards passing and 2 touchdowns. This season he has 1,015 yard passing and 12 touchdowns and 373 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. This week Ohio State takes on Indiana which they should win the game and keep pushing towards the National Championship game.


3. QB Kellen Moore, Boise State – Moore this week threw 3 touchdowns passes and 196 yards passing and this season has 1,069 yard passing and 11 touchdowns. Boise State should keep on winning and Moore should put up good numbers but don’t know if it will be enough for him to win the Heisman this season.


4. QB Ryan Mallett, Arkansas – Mallett and Arkansas was off this week and hopeful they have gotten something corrected and they play Texas A&M this week. This season Mallett has thrown for 1,438 yards and 10 touchdowns.


5. RB LaMichael James, Oregon – James had a huge day rushing against Stanford on Saturday and lead the Ducks to a victory, in that game he rushed for 257 yards and 3 touchdowns. Overall this season he has rushed for 712 yards and 7 touchdowns.

VanFulpen’s Heisman Poll

1. QB Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State – Against Eastern Michigan Pryor accounted for six touchdowns -- four passing, one rushing and one receiving. On the season he has 939 yard passing and 10 touchdowns and 269 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns. He is on the #2 overall team in the country and is the leader of that team which is the reason he is number one on my Heisman poll.


2. QB Denard Robinson, Michigan – Robinson got hurt against Bowling Green and only played about 10 minutes in the game, but did end up rushing for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns. The questions are how bad is he really hurt and what will he do against Big Ten competition.


3. QB Kellen Moore, Boise State – Moore threw for 288 yards and 3 touchdowns against Oregon State 873 yards and 8 touchdowns on the season. He should put up good numbers and Boise State will be a huge favorite in all their remaining games.


4. QB Ryan Mallett, Arkansas – Mallett looked like the Heisman favorite in the first half against Alabama when Arkansas was leading, but in the second half Mallett made some bad throws and threw 3 interceptions total in the game and cost Arkansas a shot at the upset.


5. QB Andrew Luck, Stanford – Luck didn’t have a great game in the win over Notre Dame, throwing his first two interceptions of the season but they got the win and now move on to play Oregon. This season Luck has 912 yards passing and 11 touchdowns and 163 yards rushing along with 1 rushing touchdown.

VanFulpen's Heisman Watch

1. QB Ryan Mallett, Arkansas – Mallett won on the road against Georgia with a game winning touchdown passes and threw for 380 yards and 3 touchdowns. Has a huge game this week against Alabama and if he has a great game and pull off the upset should be in the driver seat for the Heisman.

2. QB Denard Robinson, Michigan – Robinson played UMass and did win the game and put up good number, but it was UMass and for a while it looked like Michigan could have been on upset alert.

3. QB Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State – Pryor and Ohio State did beat Ohio, but Pryor threw 2 interceptions and it was never a game where Pryor needed to make any Heisman type moments.

4. QB Kellen Moore, Boise State – Moore threw for 370 yards and 2 touchdowns and crushed Wyoming, but a huge test for Boise State as well as Moore awaits this week against Oregon State.

5. QB Landry Jones, Oklahoma – Jones threw for 254 yards and 1 touchdown against Air Force but didn’t look all that impressive as he did the week before, his Hesiman hopes are fading but has a huge game in two weeks against Texas in which his Hesiman stock could rise fast depending on how he plays.

VanFulpen’s Heisman Watch

1. QB Denard Robinson, Michigan – If the Heisman Trophy was given out after two weeks Robinson would win the award hands down. What he has been able to two in the first two weeks of the season has been amazing. In two weeks he has put up 885 yards in total offense, and leads the country with 455 yards rushing and has 3 rushing touchdowns and also has thrown for 430 yards and 2 touchdowns. In last week against Notre Dame he racked up 502 yards in total offense and help Michigan win the game down in South Bend. In the next three week he should do well with winnable game for Michigan.

2. QB Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State – Pryor is coming off a huge win against Miami in which he rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown and lead Ohio State to the win. This season Pryor has thrown for 480 yards and 4 touchdowns and rushed for 130 yards and 1 touchdown. Ohio State isn’t tested for a while until they play at Wisconsin, October 16th.

3. QB Ryan Mallett, Arkansas – Mallett has throw for 701 yards and 6 touchdowns in two weeks and has the ability to put those type number game in and game out this season. He plays Georgia this Saturday and then in two weeks plays Alabama in which if he can pull that win off and put up good numbers who could job to the top of the Heisman list.

4. QB Kellen Moore, Boise State – Moore and Boise State didn’t play this past week and only has played one game against Virginia Tech in which he lead Boise State back to a win late in the game and threw for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns. In two weeks they play Oregon State which will be another big test for him and Boise State.

5. QB Landry Jones, Oklahoma – Jones is coming off a huge win against Florida State in which he threw for 380 yards and 4 touchdowns. In the first two weeks of the season he has thrown for 597 yards and 6 touchdowns with 2 interceptions, and Oklahoma will be in the National Title hunt all season long and they have a huge game against Texas in 3 weeks.

Top Ten Heisman Trophy Contenders for 2010

The Heisman Trophy is most prestigious individual award to win in college football and possible in all of sports. It has the ability to change one young man’s life forever. Here are my top ten contenders for the award this season.

1. RB Mark Ingram, Alabama
Ingram is the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy again, and he will be playing for the number one ranked team when the season opens. But there only has been one back to back winner and that was Ohio State’s Archie Griffin back in 1974 & 1975. Also Trent Richardson will take some carries away from him as well.

2009 Stats: 1,658 rushing yard 17 rushing touchdowns, 32 receptions for 334 yards and 3 touchdowns.

2. QB Ryan Mallett, Arkansas
Arkansas will be a better overall football team this season, he plays in the SEC; he has a big arm and some good weapons around him, all points to him having a Heisman run in him. The only issue will be Arkansas needs to be one of the better teams in college football for him to get the hype he needs to win the award.

2009 Stats: 3,627 passing yards 30 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions.

3. QB Jake Locker, Washington
Locker is one of the best overall athletes in college football, the issue is that his team only won five games last year and be a Heisman Trophy winner you have to lead your team to more victories. Washington has a more experienced offensive line and some veteran receivers from him to throw to this year and the team should win more games then five.

2009 Stats: 2,800 passing yards 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. 388 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns.

4. QB Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State
Pryor is a great overall athlete and finished last season with a great Rose Bowl game and comes into the season as the established quarterback on a top five ranked team, all good signings to be an early favorite for the Heisman.

2009 Stats: 2,094 passing yards 18 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. 779 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns.

5. QB Kellen Moore, Boise State
Boise State will be one of top rank teams coming into this season and Moore is a huge reason for that. He finished 7th in last years Heisman voting, and could earn a trip to New York this year.

2009 Stats: 3,536 passing yards 39 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions.

6. QB Case Keenum, Houston
Keenum had a huge season last year, the nation’s leading passer who threw for 5,000 yards for the second consecutive season. He had plenty of Heisman consideration last season, and if the team does well again he will this season as well.

2009 Stats: 5,671 passing yards 44 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

7. QB Jacory Harris, Miami
Harris showed last season he has the ability to be a big time quarterback. With a game at Ohio State early in the season, he will have his chance to make his Heisman moment with a big win and if he plays great. Even if Miami loss there he should have them in contention for the ACC title and a BCS bowl game.

2009 Stats: 3,352 passing yards 24 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

8. RB Jacquizz Rodgers, Oregon State
Rodgers is a big time talent and if Oregon State can mange to compete for the Pac 10 title and trip to the Rose Bowl again like they did last year then Rodgers has a good shot of making it to New York.

2009 Stats: 1,440 rushing yard 21 rushing touchdowns, 78 receptions for 522 yards and 1 touchdown.

9. QB Jerrod Johnson, Texas A&M
Johnson is a very talented quarterback and has a chance to be the number one pick in next years NFL Draft, but to win the Heisman he needs to have Texas A&M competing for the Big 12 title and needs to beat Oklahoma or Texas and possible both.

2009 Stats: 3,579 passing yards 30 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. 506 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns.

10. RB Dion Lewis, Pittsburgh
Last year, Lewis as a freshman finished third in the nation in total rushing yards. He will be a sophomore this season and the last three Heisman winners have been sophomores when they won it, so it is a possibility.

2009 Stats: 1,799 rushing yard 17 rushing touchdowns, 25 receptions for 189 yards and 1 touchdown.
