If the NFL Playoffs started today

We have a long season to go but if the NFL Playoffs started today these would be the teams and how they would be seeded.

New York Jets at San Diego Preview

Can the New York Jets come up with another win? They have played some great football these last three weeks to allow them to get to San Diego, both on offense and defense and will need another great game against the Chargers if they want to move on to the AFC Championship game.

The Jets have keep the game plan very simple they want to run the football with running backs Thomas Jones and Shonn Greene and not ask rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez to have to go out there and win the game. The Jets have one of the best if not the best cornerback in the NFL in Darrelle Revis and he will be asked to match up with San Diego’s best wide receiver Vincent Jackson and shut him down. The problem is that the Chargers have a lot of weapons in the passing game, including tight end Antonio Gates, wide receiver Malcom Floyd and running backs LaDainian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles.

The game is going to come down to can the New York Jets defense stop the Chargers offense and quarterback Philip Rivers, I don’t think that will happen and see Rivers as being the difference maker in the game as the Changers move on the AFC Championship game.

Baltimore at Indianapolis Preview

Everyone has talked that since the Colts rested their starters the last two weeks of the regular season that they will lose this week, well not so fast. The Colts still have one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history in Peyton Manning, and the Ravens are going to have to beat him and the Colts. The Ravens have a very good running game and there plan will most likely try to run the football and keep Manning and the Colts offense off the field. Ravens running back Ray Rice will need to have another performance like he did last week against the Patriots for the Ravens to move on to the AFC Championship game.

The Ravens won last week not only because they did a great job running the football but they put pressure on Tom Brady and forced him to make mistakes as he turned the football over four times. If the Ravens force Manning to turn the football over four times they will be in a great position to move on. But I don’t see this happing, Manning has something that Brady didn’t have last week his number two receiver in tight end Dallas Clark. The Colts have more weapons in the passing game then the Patriots and they will look to take advantage of the Raven thin secondary on Saturday night.

In my option the NFL’s MVP Peyton Manning will be the difference maker as the Colts move on to the AFC Championship game.

Arizona at New Orleans Preview

The Arizona Cardinals coming off there huge win last Sunday against the Green Bay Packers head down to New Orleans to take on a Saints team that has been struggling the last month of the season. After the Saints lost to the Cowboys they kind of went into a tail spin and lost their final two games after that lost. Everyone is saying that the Saints are done and that the Cardinals coming off that amazing game have all the momentum. Well there are two very simple but very keep factors, the Saints are at home, and they Saints have quarterback Drew Brees.

I expect this game to be just like the Cardinals last game against the Packers, high scoring and down to the wire. But this week the Cardinals will not be at home with the home crowd, like they where last week. Since both teams will be looking to throw the football, we need to look at who has the better cornerbacks and safeties, and not just the starters because both teams will look to go to the three and four wide receivers set. When you look at the Saints have the edge, not only to do they have better starters in the secondary the Cardinals but their nickel and dime packages are better.

In my option Saints safety Darren Sharper will have to be the difference maker for the Saints to win, and I believe that he will as the Saints move on to the NFC Championship game.

Packers at Cardinals Preview

The Cardinals might be with out starting wide receiver Aquan Boldin today against the Packers. In last years wild card playoff win they where with out him and end beating the Atlanta Falcons, but look for this be a tougher game. Kurt Warner will need to have a big game throwing the football and the Cardinals defense will need to play the pass better then what they did last week against the Packers.


The is Aaron Rogers first playoff game as the Packers starting quarterback, but his a number of his teammates played in the NFC Championship game just two season ago so they aren’t going to be in awe of the moment. I think with the game being in Arizona it does give the Cardinals a bit of an advantage and look for them to take advantage and win a close game.

Ravens at Patriots Preview

The Patriots don’t have wide receiver Wes Welker, but they still do have quarterback Tom Brady and wide receiver Randy Moss and that can be a deadly combination. The Ravens are thin in the secondary and they will need to get a lot of pressure on Tom Brady if they want to keep the Patriots offense in check.


The Ravens where the number six seed last season and made it all the way to the AFC Championship game and Joe Flacco will have to have another good playoff game if the Ravens want to make it past the Patriots today. Running back Ray Rice has had a great season running and catching the football this season and will have to play great today. I see the Raven keeping the game close but the Patriots winning in the end.

Eagles at Cowboys Preview

The Eagles and the Cowboys meet last Sunday in Dallas and will meet again in Dallas on Saturday for a chance to move on in the playoffs. The Cowboys haven’t won a playoff game since 1996 and the Eagles are hoping to keep that streak alive. In last week game Dallas defense was able to shut out the Eagles offense and they where able to put a lot of pressure on Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb and will again have to do that if they want to win again this Saturday. It did look like after the Eagles got down they decided to not try so hard because they knew that they would be facing the Cowboys again in the playoffs.


McNabb needs to have a big game and need help from his young weapons in wide receivers DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin as well as tight end Brent Celek and running back LeSean McCoy. I think that the game is going to come down to the Eagles offense against the Cowboys defense, which every of these unit plays better their team will win the game. I think that the Eagles will rebound from last weeks performance and be able to win this Saturday down in Dallas and move on to the next round of the playoffs.

Jets at Bengals Preview

The Jets and the Bengals meet last Sunday in New York with the Bengals resting starting running back Cedric Benson and a few other defensive starters. The Jets have tried to make people believe that Bengals tied to the win the game but the Bengals really had nothing to play for last Sunday night. Chad Ochocinco was held with out a catch which I don’t see that happing again, even with Darrelle Revis of the Jets being the best cornerback in the NFL this season.


The Bengals are at home which does give them a slight advantage, and the weather and field conditions should be better then what they where last week in New York. The Bengals should both run the football better and defend the run better then what they did last week and will need to if they want a chance to win the game. Look for the Bengals to play a lot of man to man putting cornerbacks Leon Hall and Jonathan Joseph on an island against the Jets wide receivers, making rookie quarterback Marc Sanchez have to beat them. Which I don’t see happening and see the Bengals getting a rare playoff win.
