Power Ranking Number 4: Minnesota Vikings
Vikings fans don’t worry quarterback Brett Farve is coming back for the 2010 season to hopeful lead the Vikings to a Super Bowl victory and then ride into the sunset like John Elway did years ago. But don’t expect to see Farve until the second or third pre-season game in camp with the Vikings, and they will give him all the time he needs for his ankle to heal, but they know without Farve their Super Bowl dreams are down the drain. True, the Vikings have a great running back in Adrian Peterson and he will be the focus on their offense no matter if Farve returns or not, but Farve making the passing game go. The Vikings have some outstanding receivers in Sidney Rice, Bernard Berrian, last year’s offensive rookie of the year Percy Harvin, and tight end Visanthe Shiancoe. They also have a very good offensive line that open holes for Peterson and does a good job pass blocking for Farve beside the NFC Championship game where Farve hurt the ankle.
On defense they have one of the best defensive lines in the NFL lead by defensive end Jared Allen who has a great motor and goes 100 percent all the time and has some very good pass rush moves. Pat Williams and Kevin Williams line up at defensive tackle and make up the Williams Wall which is one of the best defensive tackle combo and is very hard to run against. Middle linebacker EJ Henderson come back from injury which cased him to miss the final four games of the season and the post season. Despite having a very good cornerback in Antoine Winfield, the Vikings secondary is the weak point on their defense and are hoping by adding cornerback Lito Sheppard in the off-season that will help somewhat.
The Vikings season comes down to one thing, Brett Farve and how he plays at 41 years old. Will he be the quarterback that was one game away from the Super Bowl and helped Sidney Rice get to the Pro Bowl and Percy Harvin win rookie of the year, or will father time catch-up to him? Vikings are hoping that he can repeat the 2009 season but make his last game of his career be in Cowboy’s Statium walking off the field holding the Lombardi Trophy.

Minnesota at New Orleans Preview
The NFC Championship game matches up the top two seeds in the NFC Playoffs with the Vikings and the Saints batting for the right to go to the Super Bowl down in New Orleans. The Superdome should be rocking at kick-off and with all the expected offense it should keep rocking for the entire game. The match-up of quarterbacks is a huge reason to tune into the game with Viking quarterback Brett Farve and Saints quarterback Drew Brees having great seasons and great playoff games last weekend.
The Vikings are going to try to get to Bees with their front four with defensive end Jared Allen being their best pass rusher. The Vikings won’t bring as many blitzes as the Saints will but they will do whatever they have to do get to Brees and try to get him out of rhythm in the passing game. The Vikings secondary is their defensive weakness and they need their pass rushers to get pressure on Brees or we will pick them apart.
The Vikings are very good against the run with defensive tackles Pat and Kevin Williams, but the Saints must still try to run the football even if at the start of the game they don’t get much protection. The Saints will use multiple different running backs and will use running back Reggie Bush in many different ways, as a running back, receiver and returner and they hope he has another game like he did last week against the Cardinals. He can be the difference maker for the Saints on offense.
The Saints defense use a lot of blitzes to get pressure on the quarterback and their secondary is much better then Vikings with Darren Sharper being the differences maker in the Saints secondary. The Saints hope to be able to put pressure on Farve and force him to make some mistakes, and need to create turnovers. Running Back Adrian Peterson is huge weapon that the Vikings need to keep feeding him the football and let him make plays running the football. The Vikings have a lot of weapons on offense but need to run the football to control the clock and keep the Saints offense off the field.
I think when it is all said and done that the Saints passing offense and the home crowd will be to much for the Vikings as they move on to the Super Bowl.

Dallas at Minnesota Preview

The Dallas Cowboys come into this game as one of the hottest teams in the NFL Playoffs and travel to Minnesota to take on a Vikings teams that has some what struggled down the stretch of the season. All the questions will come up if the Vikings lose on Sunday will this be Brett Farve’s last game of his career, well who knows really. After the Cowboys went down to New Orleans to play then undefeated Saints and won the game, the Cowboys both on offense and defense have taken it to the next level. On defense the Cowboys will need DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer to have great games pressuring Farve and still being able to play the run and not allow Adrian Peterson to have a great game. With the Vikings it to the same thing they need their front four to play outstanding as well to be able to win the game. Vikings defensive end Jared Allen will need to have a big game and that goes for defensive tackle Kevin Williams as well.
The Cowboys will need another good game from quarterback Tony Romo and his receivers. The Vikings must get pressure on him, because they don’t have the talent to be able to cover the likes of tight end Jason Witten, wide receivers Mile Austin, Roy Williams and Patrick Crayton one on one.
I think this game will come down to what teams pass rushers will be able to get to the other teams quarterback and force them into mistakes. Because of that and how well the Cowboys defense overall has been playing the last month of the season I see that DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer being the difference in a Cowboy’s victory.
