Power Ranking Number 23: Arizona Cardinals

Quarterback Kurt Warner retired, they traded wide receiver Anquan Boldin to the Baltimore Ravens, the lost linebacker Karlos Dansby and safety Antrel Rolle in free-agency, some big time loss for a team that two years ago went to the Super Bowl and have won back to back division titles. They still have one of the best wide receivers in the game in Larry Fitzgerald and have a very good young running back in Beanie Wells. But there is a huge question mark at quarterback with Matt Leinart battling for the starting job against Derek Anderson, who the Cardinals signed in the off-season as a free-agent. The Cardinals feel like wide receivers Early Doucet and Steve Breaston can pick up the slack for Boldin. They also feel like they will be more of a run first offense without Warner at the quarterback position.

On defense with the lost of free-agents they brought in linebacker Joey Porter and safety Kerry Rhodes to help fill some of the void on defense. They still have cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, and defensive tackle Darnell Dockett who both are one of the best players at their positions. They drafted defensive linemen Dan Williams in the first round who many thought would have been drafted much higher. The Cardinals are still trying to make the switch to the 3-4 defense and with the additions they have made they feel like this season they will be playing that more so as their base defense.

The Cardinals this season won’t be that high flying offensive attacking team that throws the football all over, they will be a more physical team that runs the football more and looks for the big play off of play action in the passing game. Can the Cardinals win the division for a third season in a row, yes, but they have come back to the pack.
